Nancoochee Indian Mounds

The Nancoochee Indian Mounds were used by the Cherokee. This mound always had a sacred fire burning. It was visited in 1540 by Desoto as he searched for his elusive fountain of youth.

Unocoi State Park, Unocoi Georgia

This park, located 2 miles away from Helen, Georgia is great for nature exploration. Standing on the swinging bridge, you can watch and identify fish and wildlife.

There's also a beach with a pier, canoeing and paddleboating if you're brave enough to venture out.
However, since our unfortunate adventure with an alligator during our last canoeing trip, we aren't brave enough to risk it yet.

Lots of nature trails are available for hiking and a more comprehensive nature study. Be sure to take those handy field guides.

The Dangerous Days of Daniel X by James Patterson

Here's our summer read aloud:

My son loves this book. It's full of action, adventure, and aliens. He has laughed aloud while listening to this book. He even asks if we can read aloud each night! Believe me when I say, he doesn't do that often!

Because the chapters are so short, I can read a few aloud and he can read a few and we both have a great time!
